First and Foremost- The State Fair
Held near the end of the summer, Steven and I braved the heat and explored the state fair soon after moving to Nashville. We gawked at the shows and even more at the people around us. It was so country and Southern, unlike anything we had seen before.
We loved it so much it soon became an annual tradition.
Some of the highlights:
Racing pigs- what else?
Demolition Derby
The absolute best part of the fair is the Krystal eating contest. The first year we watched, this toothpick-lookin' lady walked on stage with the burly men. Her shirt was tied just below her chest, exposing her flat stomach. When the bell rang to start the contest, everyone grabbed a slider in each hand, dunked them in their drinks, and threw them in their mouths. It was seriously disgusting, almost made you want to puke. We couldn't take our eyes off of it, though!
A close-up, just thought you'd like to see :)
The winner was disputed; people still had 10 sliders in their mouth when the time was up. But the two "winners" were the skinny lady and the fat dude pictured above.
Other things we loved:
Being so close to the country
Picking our pumpkins at an actual farm
An abundance of ourdoor activities such as hiking, camping, amazing parks
Country music, of course!
And, all of the amazing and fun things that come with living in a college town and going to school.
No Shave November
Lots of soccer games with Lincoln the mascot
